Stillpoint Family Resources'
11th Annual Gala Dinner
a Great Success!
On Sunday, May 15th, 2011, Stillpoint Family Resources enjoyed perfect Spring weather as 200 of our closest friends gathered to celebrate at our 11th Annual Gala event, "Embracing a Pathway to Virtue" at the Skirball Cultural Center. Silent and Live Auction events, as well as a popular 50/50 raffle, brought in over $30,000 to benefit individuals and families in crisis for our existing counseling programs.
Wonderful entertainment with Broadway stars Candice Nicole andWhitney Kaufman, accompanied by pianist/songwriter Nelson Kole, truly brought a festive and artful note into the proceedings. A moment of historical retrospection with Olympic Gold Medalist Rafer Johnson and announcer Ross Porter gave everyone an understanding of how people who are touched by history in a negative way, can move forward and react positively and with virtue, echoing our theme for the evening.
Our theme underlined our newest program, "The Virtue Project", where we outline how good habits, what we describe as Virtues, form the compass that provides the direction toward greater wholeness. We help people discover and acquire these good habits through our counseling, teaching, training, and publishing outreaches.
Stillpoint's "Point of Service" award, given to the Chair of our board Esther Bleuel, was well-deserved, for Esther's service as a champion of the Virtue Project, and as an exemplary Board Chairperson as she leads the Board into our second decade with more purpose and dedication.
We wish to give a big thank-you to all of you who sponsored tables, bought raffle tickets, attended the gala, donated auction items, and helped to support Stillpoint through this annual fundraiser. We couldn't do the good work we do without your participation and encouragement through events such as the annual Gala. And we hope you look forward with us to next year's Gala, which will be an afternoon Garden Party with several other changes... more information coming on that in the fall!
Notes from the 2010 Gala
On Sunday May 2, 2010, 210 paying guests and 20 volunteers descended on the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA, where guests bought fun and eclectic auction items while sampling fine cuisine and visiting with old friends, and volunteers made sure the guest check-in, auction events, centerpiece placements, and puppy wrangling (for one of our Auction Items) went smoothly. All were treated to an appearance by Humanitas Honoree Art Linkletter, for his work on behalf of children and families nationwide.
Mr. Linkletter, in what was to be his final social appearance before his death several weeks later, was composed and articulate in his storytelling during his acceptance speech, and our time with him was a highlight of the evening. After a delicious dinner, KABC Radio Personality, "Captain" Jorge Jarrin auctioned off many fabulous items, the highlight of which was the sale of Pepper, a black Lab-mix puppy.
After the auction, our guests were treated to amazing music by America’s Tenor Mr. Steve Amerson, who took us through some thrilling and touching Broadway standards while imparting a sense of Stillpoint’s mission.
